Preview Roundups
March 19, 2017
Columbus at New Jersey 1:00 PM ET
The Columbus Blue Jackets go after their third shutout in the series this month when they visit the struggling New Jersey Devils on Sunday afternoon. The Blue Jackets, who are in the middle of a three-way battle for first place in the Metropolitan Division with Pittsburgh and Washington, blanked New Jersey 3-0 on March 5 and 2-0 two days later, and boast points in 10 of their last 12 games (9-2-1) overall.
Florida at Pittsburgh 1:00 PM ET
The Florida Panthers continue their uphill climb in pursuit of the second wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference when they visit the Pittsburgh Penguins on Sunday. Florida, which lost in 15 of its last 17 trips to Pittsburgh, trails Toronto by six points for the final postseason berth with 12 games to play after rallying for a 4-3 shootout victory over the Rangers in New York on Friday, and also has Tampa Bay and the New York Islanders to rise above.
Minnesota at Winnipeg 5:00 PM ET
Veteran center Eric Staal is slated to play in his 1,000th NHL game as his suddenly slumping Minnesota Wild look to sweep the season series when they visit the injury-plagued Winnipeg Jets on Sunday. Staal has scored seven goals in his last eight games, including one in Saturday’s 3-2 loss to the New York Rangers, but the Wild have fallen five points behind first-place Chicago in the Central Division after a 1-6-0 swoon.
Colorado at Chicago 7:00 PM ET
The Chicago Blackhawks have taken control of the Central Division with four consecutive victories and hope to avoid a letdown when they host the league-worst Colorado Avalanche on Sunday. The Blackhawks increased their lead over struggling Minnesota to five points with a 2-1 overtime victory at Toronto on Saturday in which leading scorer Patrick Kane was kept off the scoresheet.
Carolina at Philadelphia 7:30 PM ET
It will take a tremendous effort by either the Philadelphia Flyers or Carolina Hurricanes down the stretch - and plenty of help - to qualify for the postseason. But a victory in their contest in the City of Brotherly Love on Sunday will be a good start for one of the Metropolitan Division rivals.
Ottawa at Montreal 7:30 PM ET
One day after moving two points ahead of the Ottawa Senators, the Montreal Canadiens attempt to extend their lead atop the Atlantic Division when they host the back end of the home-and-home series on Sunday. Montreal, which had lost two of its previous three games, squandered a pair of leads Saturday before emerging with a 4-3 shootout win at Ottawa.
Los Angeles at Calgary 9:30 PM ET
Calgary is as hot as its nickname - especially goaltender Brian Elliott - as the Flames host the Los Angeles Kings on Sunday for the first of three meetings with their Pacific Division rivals in 19 days. Elliott won his last 10 decisions, helping Calgary vault nine points clear of ninth-place Los Angeles in the Western Conference and into a three-way battle with Anaheim and Edmonton for the second and third place in the Pacific.
