Preview Roundups
March 11, 2017
Philadelphia at Boston 1:00 PM ET
Brad Marchand is in the midst of a career year, with the 28-year-old seeing his name bandied about among the NHL's elite in addition to premature discussions involving the Hart Trophy. With 25 points (15 goals, 10 assists) in his last 17 games, Marchand looks to keep the Bruins on the winning track on Saturday afternoon as they vie for a season series victory over the visiting Philadelphia Flyers.
Nashville at San Jose 4:00 PM ET
The San Jose Sharks have created distance in the treacherous waters of the Pacific Division on the strength of a sterling 7-1-2 run, highlighted by a victory over the top team in the NHL. The Sharks look to swim closer to the top of the Western Conference on Saturday when they host the reeling Nashville Predators in the second contest of their six-game homestand.
Ottawa at Colorado 7:00 PM ET
The surging Ottawa Senators can take over first place in the Atlantic Division for the first time since Oct. 18 when they visit the league-worst Colorado Avalanche on Saturday night. Ottawa, riding a five-game winning streak, is sitting two points behind the first-place Montreal Canadiens with a pair of games in hand.
Calgary at Winnipeg 7:00 PM ET
The Calgary Flames are surging at the right time, bringing an eight-game winning streak into Saturday’s visit to the Winnipeg Jets, but the health of two key defensemen is in focus after Dougie Hamilton and Michael Stone left Thursday’s victory over Montreal with injuries. Hamilton suffered a lower-body injury in the second period and Stone injured his shoulder in the third, but the Flames stayed hot in ending Montreal’s six-game winning streak with a 5-0 shutout.
Columbus at Buffalo 7:00 PM ET
The Columbus Blue Jackets are making a push for first place in the Metropolitan Division and hope to continue their surge Saturday, when they visit the Buffalo Sabres in search of their fourth straight win and a sweep of the home-and-home series. Columbus edged Buffalo 4-3 at home on Friday to climb within three points of division-leading Washington, which also sits atop the league standings.
Florida at Tampa Bay 7:00 PM ET
The Tampa Bay Lightning have battled through plenty of adversity to stay in the race for a playoff spot and likely must overcome more obstacles when they host the struggling Florida Panthers on Saturday. The Lightning, who have been without captain Steven Stamkos and Ryan Callahan for most of the season, saw three centers go down with injuries in Thursday’s 4-1 win over Minnesota.
Toronto at Carolina 7:00 PM ET
The Toronto Maple Leafs resume their pursuit of a postseason berth when they kick off a three-game road trip with a visit to the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday night. The Maple Leafs have won two in a row following a five-game skid and trail third-place Boston by two points in the Atlantic Division while sitting one point out of the second wild card.
New Jersey at Arizona 8:00 PM ET
The reeling New Jersey Devils are on the verge of matching an unwanted franchise record when they wrap up a three-game road trip with a visit to the Arizona Coyotes on Saturday night. The Devils have dropped nine consecutive games (0-7-2) and one more defeat will equal the longest in team annals, first set in 1983 and tied in 2013.
NY Islanders at St. Louis 8:00 PM ET
The New York Islanders look to end their nine-game road trip with three straight victories and maintain a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference when they visit the St. Louis Blues on Saturday. The Islanders are 5-2-1 on their trek after knocking off Edmonton 4-1 on Tuesday and edging Vancouver 4-3 in overtime despite allowing 39 shots two nights later.
Pittsburgh at Vancouver 10:00 PM ET
The Pittsburgh Penguins still have time to capture the second Presidents' Trophy in franchise history and continue their quest Saturday, when they visit the Vancouver Canucks. Pittsburgh pulled within three points of league-leading Washington with Friday's 3-2 shootout win at Edmonton, which was the club's fourth straight win overall and improved it to 2-0-0 on its five-game road trip.
Washington at Los Angeles 10:30 PM ET
The Washington Capitals scored a staggering 4.65 goals per game during a scintillating 17-2-1 run, only to return from their bye week by tallying just 22 times over their last 10 (5-4-1). After recording regulation losses in back-to-back contests for the first time in over three months, the NHL-leading Capitals look to get it in gear on Saturday when they visit the Los Angeles Kings for the second leg of their trek through California.
