Preview Roundups
March 09, 2017
NY Rangers at Carolina 7:00 PM ET
The New York Rangers continue to thrive off-Broadway and go for their sixth straight victory away from Madison Square Garden when they visit the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday night. The Rangers started their four-game road trip with a sweep of Tampa Bay and Florida on Monday and Tuesday to improve to an NHL-best 24-8-0 away from home.
Philadelphia at Toronto 7:30 PM ET
The Philadelphia Flyers appear to have put their disastrous spell in their rear-view mirror and are looking to repeat the feat of last year's late-season surge over the final few weeks of this campaign. The Flyers answered a dismal 2-6-1 stretch by collecting seven of a possible eight points in their last four games heading into Thursday's pivotal tilt against the host Toronto Maple Leafs.
Minnesota at Tampa Bay 7:30 PM ET
The Minnesota Wild look to get their offense going again and solidify a lead in the Central Division when they begin a five-game, eight-day road trip against the surging Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday night. The Wild dropped two of three and scored only four times during that span, seeing their advantage in the division over Chicago reduced to one point with one game in hand.
Anaheim at Chicago 8:30 PM ET
Patrick Kane and the Chicago Blackhawks are on quite the run, with the reigning Hart Trophy winner recording his third multi-goal performance in five outings and amassing 14 tallies and 21 points in his last 13 to help the team win all but one of those contests. Fresh off a five-day break, the white-hot Blackhawks vie for their eighth straight victory on Thursday when they host the Anaheim Ducks.
New Jersey at Colorado 9:00 PM ET
Colorado is the only team in the NHL that is mathematically eliminated from playoff contention, but the recent play of the New Jersey Devils has them on a fast track to join the Avalanche. New Jersey tries to snap an eight-game losing streak (0-6-2) which plummeted it into the Metropolitan Division cellar when it continues a three-game road trip Thursday in Colorado after getting shut out in back-to-back games by Sergei Bobrovsky and the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Montreal at Calgary 9:00 PM ET
The Calgary Flames can match their longest winning streak since relocating north of the border when they host another red-hot team in the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday night. The surging Flames have reeled off seven consecutive wins, one shy of the club record established on three occasions -- the last coming in 2005 -- since moving to Calgary in 1980.
Ottawa at Arizona 9:00 PM ET
The Ottawa Senators continue their surprising surge toward first place in the Atlantic Division on Thursday as they aim for their fifth straight victory when they continue their three-game road trip against the Arizona Coyotes. Ottawa trails Montreal by four points for the top spot in the Atlantic with two games in hand thanks to Wednesday's trek-opening 5-2 triumph in Dallas.
NY Islanders at Vancouver 10:00 PM ET
The ability to stay out of a slump is the key ingredient in the revival of the New York Islanders, who are nearing the end of a franchise-high nine-game road trip with a visit to the Vancouver Canucks on Thursday. The Islanders are 4-2-1 on the lengthy trek and hold a one-point edge over Toronto for the second wild card in the Eastern Conference.
Nashville at Los Angeles 10:30 PM ET
The Nashville Predators finished February with a flourish with 19 goals during their four-game winning streak, only to see the offense take a step back in a three-game winless skid (0-2-1) to begin the month of March. The Predators look to get it together and bolster their postseason standing on Thursday when they continue their trek through the Golden State by paying the Los Angeles Kings a visit.
Washington at San Jose 10:30 PM ET
Jannik Hansen finally is set to make his debut with the San Jose Sharks, nine full days after being acquired at the trade deadline. With proper clearance from the U.S. Immigration Service now complete, the 30-year-old Dane expects to be in the lineup on Thursday as the Sharks open a six-game homestand by vying for a season sweep of the NHL-best Washington Capitals.
