Preview Roundups
September 28, 2017
Minnesota at Cleveland 12:10 PM ET
The Cleveland Indians were just three games above .500 a week after the All-Star break, but they will go for their 100th win in the finale of a three-game series against the visiting Minnesota Twins on Thursday afternoon. Cleveland holds a one-game edge for American League's best record while the Twins have secured their first playoff slot since 2010.
Cincinnati at Milwaukee 4:10 PM ET
The Milwaukee Brewers can't afford any more slip-ups as they try to catch the Colorado Rockies for the National League's second wild-card spot. The Brewers look to win the finale of a three-game set against visiting Cincinnati on Thursday, one day after a damaging 6-0 loss to the Reds dropped them 2 1/2 games behind Colorado with four left to play.
Pittsburgh at Washington 7:05 PM ET
The Washington Nationals clinched both a postseason berth and their fourth NL East title in six years on Sept. 10, so they've had their eyes fixed on the playoffs for quite some time. After spending the last 2 1/2 weeks walking the fine line of rest versus remaining sharp, the Nationals look to pick up the pace on Thursday with the opener of a four-game set versus the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates.
Tampa Bay at NY Yankees 7:05 PM ET
The New York Yankees look to continue their dominance in the season series and keep hopes alive for an American League East title when they go for a three-game sweep of the visiting Tampa Bay Rays on Thursday night. The Yankees got a solid pitching performance and three home runs to knock off the Rays 6-1 on Wednesday, improving to 12-6 against them in 2017, and remain three games behind first-place Boston in the AL East.
Atlanta at Miami 7:10 PM ET
Giancarlo Stanton will attempt to make history in front of his home fans this weekend when the Miami Marlins host the Atlanta Braves for a four-game, season-ending series that starts Thursday night. Stanton needs one home run to match Ryan Howard (58) for the most blasts in a campaign since 2006 and three to become the sixth player in major league history to belt 60 in a season.
Houston at Boston 7:10 PM ET
The Houston Astros and Boston Red Sox could be seeing a lot of each other should the final pieces of the regular-season puzzle fit in such a manner that the clubs meet in the American League Division Series. Both teams look to improve their respective postseason positioning on Thursday when they open a four-game set at Fenway Park in Boston.
Chi. Cubs at St. Louis 7:15 PM ET

The Chicago Cubs’ stars probably won’t see much action in the finale of their four-game road series against the St. Louis Cardinals on Thursday. The Cubs can give their top players some time off after clinching their second straight National League Central crown with a 5-1 win Wednesday.

Oakland at Texas 8:05 PM ET
The Oakland Athletics look to continue their recent dominance of the Texas Rangers and perhaps pass them in the American League West standings when the teams begin a season-ending four-game series in the Lone Star State on Thursday. A walk-off homer by Mark Canha lifted the Athletics to a dramatic 6-5 win over Seattle in their home finale Wednesday.
LA Angels at Chi. White Sox 8:10 PM ET
The Los Angeles Angels have been eliminated from American League wild-card contention and are playing out the string when they visit the Chicago White Sox on Thursday in the finale of a four-game set. White Sox rookie Nicky Delmonico ended Los Angeles' hopes with a two-run, walk-off homer in the bottom of the 10th in Wednesday's 6-4 victory that propelled the Minnesota Twins into the postseason.
Detroit at Kansas City 8:15 PM ET
The Kansas City Royals have little to play for, but they still have a chance to make it a fifth consecutive season without a losing record, sitting two games under .500 with four to play. Kansas City looks to continue its mastery of American League-worst Detroit when its goes for a three-game sweep of the visiting Tigers on Thursday night.
