Tyler Seguin beat his old team Monday with a wrister at 2 minutes, 59 seconds of overtime, giving the visiting Dallas Stars a 3-2 win over the Boston Bruins at TD Garden.
Seguin's 22nd goal of the season was set up by John Klingberg and Jamie Benn. For Klingberg, it was his 35th assist, tops among all defenseman. It was Benn's second helper of the game.
With the win, the Stars begin a four-game road trip through the Eastern Conference with a two-point day.
The Bruins forced overtime with Ryan Spooner's fifth goal off a point blast at 11:21 of the third period. Kari Lehtonen made the initial save on Spooner's shot, but the puck appeared to bounce off a Stars defender and trickled just past the goal line.
Lehtonen was solid most of the game, though, coming up with 30 saves to earn the win. Anton Khudobin was saddled with the defeat for Boston after stopping 29 of 32 shots.
The game started with a heavy tilt in Dallas' favor. The Stars pumped 12 of the day's first 13 shots on goal, but Khudobin stopped them all. The Bruins followed with the next 13 shots, bridging the first period's end and second period's beginning, but Lehtohen stood tall.
On their second shot in roughly 12 minutes, however, the Stars broke the scoring seal. Stephen Johns took a pass from Remi Elie and roofed a snapper from the left circle for his fifth goal at 3:49 of the second period.
Alexander Radulov made it 2-0 Dallas at 8:15 with his 17th goal, collecting the rebound of Benn's shot directly off a faceoff win from Patrick Bergeron. Radulov deked to his backhand and slid the puck by a lunging Khudobin.
Boston got back into the game at 16:28 of the second with a classic point blast from captain Zdeno Chara. Taking a D-to-D pass from rookie Charlie McAvoy, Chara boomed a slapper past Lehtonen for his fourth goal.
Despite the setback, the Bruins remained in third in the Eastern Conference with 56 points. The Stars jumped into a three-way tie for sixth in the Western Conference with 53 points, joining Minnesota and Los Angeles.
