Kings 3, Capitals 1: Dwight King extended his goal-scoring streak to three games as host Los Angeles posted its fourth consecutive victory.
Trevor Lewis and Jarret Stoll also tallied for the Kings, who improved to 2-0-0 on their three-game homestand. Jonathan Quick turned aside 27 shots as Los Angeles has put together its longest winning streak since capturing six straight from Oct. 12-26.
Captain Alex Ovechkin scored the lone goal for the Capitals, who dropped to 1-1-0 on their four-game road trip. Braden Holtby finished with 27 saves as Washington settled for a split of the two-game season series.
After a scoreless first period, Los Angeles got on the board at 9:03 of the second as King knocked in the rebound of Tyler Toffoli's shot at the right post. Lewis doubled the lead 17 seconds into the third, sliding a backhander around Holtby after receiving a cross-slot pass from Marian Gaborik.
Washington halved the deficit 98 seconds later, when Ovechkin one-timed a pass from rookie Evgeny Kuznetsov off the left post and in from the left faceoff circle. Stoll restored the Kings' two-goal advantage at 7:09 as captain Dustin Brown's backhand pass attempt deflected to him on the doorstep.
GAME NOTEBOOK: King has collected three goals and two assists over his last three games as a temporary member of Los Angeles' "That 70s Line." ...Toffoli had his three-game goal-scoring streak snapped but notched an assist. ... Gaborik celebrated his 33rd birthday with his fourth assist in five games. ... Ovechkin's goal was his 34th of the season, keeping him one behind Rick Nash of the New York Rangers for the league lead.
