Blackhawks 3, Maple Leafs 1: Rookie Brandon Pirri recorded a goal and an assist as Chicago outclassed Toronto to improve to 4-0-2 at home.

Bryan Bickell scored his first of the season and former Toronto defenseman Mike Kostka netted his first career goal for the Blackhawks, who won their eighth straight meeting with the Maple Leafs. Corey Crawford needed to make only 19 saves for the victory as Chicago outshot Toronto 40-20.

Nazem Kadri scored a power--play goal for the Maple Leafs, who lost on the road for the first time in four games. Jonathan Bernier stopped 37 shots in his second straight defeat.

Kostka, playing just his second game for the Blackhawks after joining them in the offseason, snapped a 1-1 tie midway through the second period, when he pinched down from the point and fired a wrist shot past Bernier. Pirri extended the advantage with Maple Leafs captain Dion Phaneuf in the box for holding, tipping in a shot by Brandon Saad.

All of the scoring occurred in the second period, when Chicago outshot Toronto 20-6. Bickell tallied 5:32 into the session on a wrist shot that fooled Bernier, but Kadri tipped in a nice pass from Joffrey Lupul 91 seconds later with Duncan Keith serving an interference penalty.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Former Blackhawks C Dave Bolland, who was traded to Toronto in the offseason, received a loud ovation when he took the ceremonial faceoff prior to the start of the game. … Toronto LW James van Riemsdyk returned to the lineup after missing two games with back spasms and finished with two shots and a minus-1 rating in 20:39 of ice time. … Chicago D Nick Leddy contributed two assists.
