KINGS 5, RED WINGS 2: Defenseman Drew Doughty collected a goal and an assist and All-Star Jonathan Quick turned aside 22 shots as host Los Angeles pulled into a four-way tie for eighth place in the Western Conference.

Anze Kopitar had a shorthanded goal for his team-leading 21st tally as the Kings joined Colorado, San Jose and Calgary with 78 points.

Justin Williams, Jeff Carter and rookie defenseman Slava Voynov also scored and captain Dustin Brown notched a pair of assists to extend his point streak to a career high-tying nine games.

All-Star Jimmy Howard struggled in his return from a groin injury and Jiri Hudler and Johan Franzen tallied for the Red Wings, who fell to 1-5-1 in their last seven road contests.

Williams opened the scoring 6:48 into the first period after cleaning up Doughty's point shot for his 17th goal.

Kopitar doubled the advantage nearly 6 1/2 minutes later after taking a feed from Brown in the neutral zone. Kopitar skated into the offensive zone and wristed a shot from the right circle which sailed past Howard for his 21st goal.

After Hudler trimmed the deficit 4:06 into the second period, Doughty regained the two-goal advantage nearly seven minutes later with a point shot through traffic.
