Brendan Morrison scored twice and added two assists as the Calgary Flames extended Carolina's road woes Tuesday, fending off the Hurricanes 7-6.

Morrison recorded his first multi-goal game since Oct. 26, 2010 as the Flames easily set a season high in goals. Jarome Iginla added two goals and an assist for Calgary.

With the Flames leading 7-4 following Iginla's empty-netter with 1:09 remaining, Carolina struck back with two late goals from Chad LaRose and Eric Staal to make things interesting as the teams combined for seven goals in the third period.

Calgary fought off the Hurricanes over the final six seconds to drop Carolina to 3-8-2 on the road this season, the worst mark in the Eastern Conference.

Lee Stempniak, Mikael Backlund and Rene Bourque added goals for the Flames.

Staal scored twice to pace the Hurricanes, while Jamie McBain, Jiri Tlusty and Tim Brent also had goals.

Following a big first period by the Flames, Morrison gave Calgary a 3-0 edge early in the second before the Hurricanes responded. Tlusty put Carolina on the board at 5:39 with a penalty-shot goal - the first against Miikka Kiprusoff since Nov. 6, 2008 - and Brent made it a one-goal game at 13:16 with a wrist shot from between the circles that eluded Kiprusoff on the blocker side.

Calgary answered less than a minute later as Bourque broke in on a 2-on-1 and whistled a shot that beat Ward between the pads, and the Hurricanes wouldn't threaten again until the wild final minute.
