Georgia Tech forward Ben Lammers had 19 points and 13 rebounds and freshman guard Jose Alvarado had a season-high 18 points when the Yellow Jackets held off the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats 65-62 in the first game of the Ramblin' Wreck Showcase at McCamish Pavilion on Sunday.

Brandon Alston had 14 points and five rebounds and made all seven of his free-throw attempts for Georgia Tech, which played its first game since returning from China after a 63-60 loss to UCLA in Shanghai last Sunday.

Georgia Tech (1-1) led by 60-51 on Alvarado's layup with 4:21 remaining, but two 3-pointers by Brandon Tabb got the Wildcats within three points with 1:58 left.

Bethune closed to within one at 61-60 after a dunk by Shawntrez Davis and a 3-pointer by Isaiah Bailey 12 seconds around two missed Tech free throws.

Georgia Tech's Abdoulaye Gueye made two free throws with seven seconds remaining, and Bethune-Cookman's Malik Maitland missed a 3-pointer with two seconds left.

Tabb had 21 points and tied a career-high with seven 3-pointers and Davis had 12 points for the Wildcats (1-3). Bailey had 11 points.

Georgia Tech did not make a field goal in the final four minutes but held on by making 24-of-31 free throw attempts. Bethune-Cookman was 10-of-25 from the foul line.

Neither team shot 40 percent from the field. Georgia Tech had a 40-33 rebounding edge.

The Yellow Jackets' top two returning players, sophomore guard Josh Okogie and senior guard Tadric Jackson, still have not played this season while serving NCAA suspensions for receiving improper benefits.
