Junior forward Colin Borchert scored 21 points and the host Bulldogs held on to beat their archrival and snap a 13-game losing streak.

Mississippi State (8-20, 3-13 SEC) got a fine all-around performance from Borchert, who shot 7-of-10 and added seven rebounds and three assists.

Ole Miss (21-8, 10-6) suffered a devastating blow in its bid to make the NCAA Tournament for the first time in coach Andy Kennedy’s seven-year tenure. Senior forward Murphy Holloway led the Rebels with 22 points and 19 rebounds, but SEC leading scorer Marshall Henderson shot 4-of-19 in his 16-point performance.

Mississippi State, which led 34-30 at the half, got 12 points and six rebounds from Gavin Ware. Roquez Johnson and Jalen Steele scored 10 points each.

Ole Miss shot 33.8 percent overall and 20.7 percent (6-of-29) from beyond the arc.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Ole Miss failed in its bid to sweep the Bulldogs for the first time since 1996 and hurt its chance for a top-four SEC finish and the accompanying conference tournament double-bye. … The Rebels fell to 3-5 in SEC road games and 6-7 away from Tad Smith Coliseum … Mississippi State improved to 92-24 against Ole Miss in Starkville.
