Deividas Dulkys and Michael Snaer each scored 16 points and Florida State opened what it hopes is a special season with a 79-67 victory over Jacksonville on Friday.
Terrance Shannon added 15 points off the bench for Florida State (1-0), which earned its 17 straight win over Jacksonville.
The Seminoles lost their best player – forward Chris Singleton – to the NBA, but there is plenty of talent left. With three starters returning from last season’s team that made a surprising run to the Sweet 16, expectations are the highest they’ve been in Tallahassee since 1993.
The Seminoles had the Dolphins (0-1) outclassed from the start. Florida State led by double digits the entire way after opening the game on a 16-5 run. Snaer had 11 points and Dulkys added 10, leading the Seminoles to a 44-31 halftime lead. The lead ballooned to as much as 22 points in the second half.
Keith McDougald scored 21 points for the Dolphins, who were picked to finish third in the Atlantic Sun.
