Scott Wood scored 20 points and Tracy Smith added 18 as North Carolina State held off a late charge by visiting Georgia Tech for a 79-74 victory Saturday.
Smith scored six points in an 11-0 run that gave the Wolfpack a 65-54 lead with 6:27 left, but Georgia Tech crept back within 69-66 with 2:28 remaining.
Wood responded with a steal and layup and made 4 of 4 from the free-throw line in the final 29 seconds for N.C. State (15-13, 5-9 ACC), which has won three of five.
Iman Shumpert had 21 points, Mfon Udofia added 13 and Glen Rice Jr. 12 for Georgia Tech (11-17, 3-11), which lost its eighth straight conference game.
Lorenzo Brown, who was 1 of 14 in the previous six games from 3-point range, made all three of his attempts and scored 11 of his 13 points in the first half for N.C. State.
Georgia Tech trailed by as many as 12, but scored the final six points to close within 39-33 at halftime. The Yellow Jackets shot 56 percent (14 of 25) in the first 20 minutes.
