Darius Johnson-Odom scored nine of his 17 points in overtime and hit the tying basket in regulation as visiting Marquette outlasted No. 15 Connecticut, 74-67, on Thursday.
Jimmy Butler added 16 points for the Golden Eagles (17-11, 8-7 Big East), who added their third win over a ranked team to an NCAA Tournament at-large resume that has them on the bubble.
Kemba Walker scored 27 points for the Huskies (20-7, 8-7), who were without coach Jim Calhoun due to a death in the family.
Johnson-Odom’s layup with five seconds left knotted it at 59-59 and forced overtime, where he scored the first three points and never let Connecticut retake the lead.
Marquette dominated for most of the first half, getting 13 points from Butler and closing the period with a 31-12 burst to take a 34-23 lead into the break.
The Huskies quickly made up the deficit when play resumed, taking advantage of the Golden Eagles missing their first 11 field goal attempts to rip off a 20-4 run and take the lead. Connecticut would stretch it to 49-41 on Jeremy Lamb’s layup with 10:21 left before Marquette began to fight back.
