Verdell Jones III returned to the lineup and hit some clutch shots down the stretch to help Indiana hold on for a 60-57 victory over No. 20 Minnesota on Wednesday in Bloomington, Ind.

The Hoosiers (12-11, 3-7 Big Ten) scored 10 unanswered points to build an early 18-6 cushion, and they carried that 12-point lead into the locker room. Minnesota rallied late, scoring 10 straight to get within one, 55-54, with 3:05 left, but Jones – who missed three games with a knee injury – hit a pair of free throws and added a 3-pointer at the 2:02 mark that proved to be the winning margin.

Blake Hoffarber had an off-balance 3-pointer in the final seconds that could have tied the game for the Golden Gophers, but the shot came up well short.

Jones and Tom Pritchard scored 12 points each to lead the Hoosiers, who prevailed despite hitting just 5 of 24 3-point shots. Hoffarber finished with 15 points for Minnesota (16-6, 5-5).
