Peyton Siva finished with 19 points and seven assists as No. 19 Louisville escaped with a 79-78 double overtime victory over No. 5 Connecticut in Storrs on Saturday.
Terrence Jennings added 16 points and 10 rebounds for the Cardinals (17-4, 6-2 Big East), who picked up their first win over a ranked conference opponent.
The Huskies led, 55-48, with five minutes left in regulation before Louisville ripped off a 9-0 burst and took the lead on a pair of Siva free throws with 2:26 left.
Kemba Walker hit a deep 3-pointer to put the Huskies back on top at the 1:22 mark. Siva’s layup knotted it again with 22 seconds left and forced overtime.
Siva was big in the extra session, coming up with a dunk with eight seconds left to force a second overtime. Two slashes through the lane for layups in the second overtime by Siva gave the Cardinals the cushion they needed, and Walker missed a long 3-pointer at the buzzer for the Huskies.
Shabazz Napier scored 23 points, Jeremy Lamb added 21 and Walker finished with 20 for Connecticut (17-3, 5-3 Big East), which had its six-game winning streak snapped.
