Rashad Bishop scored 20 points and Cincinnati pulled away in the second half for a 72-56 win over Rutgers in a Big East game on Wednesday night. Dion Dixon added 14 points while Yancy Gates had 11 points and 12 rebounds for the Bearcats (18-3, 5-3 Big East).
Jonathan Mitchell scored 20 points to lead Rutgers (12-8, 3-5 Big East). Dane Miller added 11 for the Scarlet Knights.
Cincinnati trailed 26-20 but ended the first half with an 11-4 run to take a 31-30 lead. Rutgers scored the first basket of the second half. The Bearcats were scoreless until the 15:27 mark when Sean Kilpatrick hit a 3-pointer that put Cincinnati on top for good.
The Bearcats built the lead to 60-48 on Bishop's fast-break dunk with 3:24 to play. Cincinnati then put the game away at the foul line, where it made 22 of 30. The Bearcats held a 34-24 rebounding advantage.
Rutgers was attempting to win back-to-back Big East road games for the first time since the 1999-2000 season.
