John Shurna scored 22 of his 24 points in the first half, helping Northwestern cruise to a 74-60 victory over Michigan in the Big Ten Conference on Tuesday night in Evanston, Ill.

Shurna single-handedly put together an 8-0 run, capped by back-to-back 3-pointers, that put the Wildcats (12-5, 3-4 Big Ten) in front for good 18-10 with 13:51 left in the first half. The junior forward added the final nine points of a 12-3 spurt later in the half that stretched the gap to 34-22 and Michigan never got back within single digits.

Northwestern, which shot 50 percent from the field in the first half, including 8 of 16 3-pointers, scored nine straight points early in the second half to extend the lead to 53-33 with 15:52 left, effectively sealing the outcome.

Luka Mirkovic finished with 13 points for the Wildcats. Stu Douglass led the Wolverines (11-8, 1-5) with 17 points off the bench while Darius Morris added 16 points.
