Corey Stokes led the way with 23 points and Mouphtaou Yarou finished with 18 points and 12 rebounds as No. 7 Villanova got the better of No. 17 Louisville, 88-74, on Wednesday.
Corey Fisher added 17 points and eight boards for the Wildcats (15-1, 4-0 Big East), who dominated the glass, 36-18, en route to their 10th straight win.
The Cardinals (13-3, 2-1) shot nearly 52 percent and knocked down eight 3-pointers in the first half, but it was the Wildcats taking a 42-41 edge into the break behind 16 points from Stokes and 10 from Fisher.
The Wildcats began to pull away early in the second, opening with a 17-9 run. Louisville cut it to 59-53 when Preston Knowles knocked down a 3-pointer at the 13:47 mark but then went over three minutes without a field goal, allowing Villanova to open up a double-digit advantage.
Things don’t get any easier for the Wildcats, who step out of conference to face Maryland on Saturday before playing at No. 9 Connecticut and at No. 4 Syracuse next week.
Knowles finished with 24 points for the Cardinals.
