Gerald Colds finished with 20 points and Chris Fouch scored 10 as Drexel stunned No. 21 Louisville 52-46 on Tuesday.
Drexel dominated on the glass 44-25 to become the first visiting team to win at the Cardinals’ new arena.
Louisville (8-1) has gotten off to slow first halves several times this season, but has made up for it with blistering second halves, wearing its opponents down with pressure defense and a rotation that goes 10 deep.
The Dragons (7-1) were not so easy to shake. After taking a 25-23 lead into the break, Drexel continued to maintain a slim lead late into the second half, using its advantage on the boards keep the Cardinals from getting out on the break.
Drexel stretched the lead to 47-42 on Yannick Formbor’s jumper with 4:37 left and neither team would manage another field goal until Chris Smith’s jumper with 31 seconds left pulled Louisville within 49-46, and ended an eight-minute field goal drought for the Cardinals.
But Fouch hit a pair of free throws, and Colds split a pair in the final 30 seconds to seal it for the Dragons.
