Lakeem Jackson slammed down any chances for Wofford to pull off an upset of South Carolina.
Jackson’s fast-break dunk with 12:43 remaining in the game capped a decisive run that ended with a 64-53 win over Wofford Saturday at Colonial Life Arena in Columbia, S.C. It was South Carolina’s sixth straight win and seventh in the last eight games.
South Carolina (7-1) started the second half leading 32-20, but Wofford (4-6) went on a 14-2 run and tied the score at 34-34 with 15:08 to go on a layup by Jamar Diggs.
Ramon Galloway’s jumper with 14:50 left put the Gamecocks up by two, but Diggs came through with another basket and tied the score at 36-36 with 13:44 left. One minute later, Jackson’s dunk sealed Wofford’s fate as it sparked a 7-0 Gamecock run.
South Carolina shot 24-of-49 from the field (49 percent).
Freshman Bruce Ellington’s 18 points paced the Gamecocks, and Sam Muldrow added a double-double of 14 points and 14 rebounds.
Cameron Rundles scored 20 points and grabbed five rebounds for Wofford, and Noah Dahlman went 8-of-9 from the line on the way to 14 points.
