Texas A&M won its 54th straight home game, but it wasn't easy. The Aggies needed a late surge in the second half to get past Stephen F. Austin 62-53, Thursday in College Station, Texas.

Texas A&M (6-1) trailed by three at half and didn't catch up with the Lumberjacks (4-2) until nine minutes were left in the game. From that point, the Aggies ran off 12 straight points to build a nine-point lead with five minutes to got. But the Lumberjacks, who put a scare in Texas Tech in November, wouldn't go away.

Amos Olatayo's 3-pointer cut the lead back to five with 1:18 to play. The Aggiles would make just enough free throws down the stretch to secure their third straight win and avoid what would have been a significant upset. Texas A&M has now beaten SFA 13 straight times.

B.J. Holmes led A&M with points, and Khris Middleton added 10 for the Aggies, who turned it over 16 times.

Stephen H. Austin tested the Aggies behind 20 points and eight rebounds from Jordan Glynn. Denzel Barnes added 14 for the Lumberjacks.
