Freshman guard Kyrie Irving put on a show with 31 points to lead top-ranked Duke to a 84-79 victory over No. 6 Michigan State in an ACC/Big Ten Challenge showdown at Cameron Indoor Stadium in Durham, N.C.
Irving made 8-of-13 field-goal attempts and hit 13-of-16 free throws to lead Duke (7-0) to its 81st consecutive non-conference home victory.
Nolan Smith scored 17 points and Kyle Singler added 15 points for the defending national champion Blue Devils.
Korie Lucious had 20 points and eight assists for Michigan State (5-2) in the matchup of two of last season’s Final Four teams.
Draymond Green scored 16 points and Kalin Lucas added 14 points for the Spartans, who committed 20 turnovers.
Duke ceased control of the game with a 12-2 run - capped by a 3-point hoop by Singler - to take a 61-49 lead with 9:22 remaining.
Mason Plumlee had 10 points, 10 rebounds and five steals for the Blue Devils.
Duke led 38-34 at halftime behind 18 first-half points from Irving. Lucious had 13 first-half points for Michigan State.
