Marcus Morris led five players in double figures with 18 points and No. 7 Kansas pounded Longwood, 113-75 on Friday in the opener for both teams.
Markieff Morris added 14 points and 14 rebounds for Kansas (1-0), which shot 59 percent (43 of 72).
The Jayhawks, who were upset as a No. 1 seed in the second round of the NCAA Tournament last season, still figure to be a factor in the Big 12 this season despite the loss of Cole Aldrich, Xavier Henry and point guard Sherron Collins.
The Morris twins, along with the impending arrival of Josh Selby (the top point guard prospect in the nation) is the main reason there is still hope.
Even if Selby is declared academically ineligible the Jayhawks’ backcourt should be formidable. Tyshawn Taylor had 17 points and 11 of Kansas’ 26 assists.
Antwan Carter scored 22 points for the Lancers (0-1).
