Miami was forced to rally back from a halftime deficit in a hard-fought 89-77 opening win over Jacksonville, Friday in Coral Gables, Fla.
The Hurricanes trailed 48-42 at half and struggled to deliver a knockout punch in the second half.
Malcolm Grant had a game-high 23 points, and Durant Scott added 20 for Miami.
Jacksonville took advantage of some horrid foul shooting by the Hurricanes, who shot 16-of-25 from the line. The Dolphins (0-1) had four players in double digits, led by Glen Powell's 18 points. Ayron Hardy and Delwan Graham each added 14 for Jacksonville.
Miami takes a step up in competition next week, when the Hurricanes travel to No. 19 Memphis on Tuesday. Jacksonville will try to bounce back at home against Savannah State Tuesday.
