SAN ANTONIO -- There have plenty of times in San Antonio's five championship seasons since 1999 that the Spurs were talented, balanced and chock-full of players on their roster who could put the ball in the basket and play team basketball.

But if San Antonio's performance in its 123-98 win over the Utah Jazz on Wednesday is any indication, this edition of the Spurs is fortified for about any of the obstacles that may stand it their way as the NBA calendar nears its halfway point.

Forward Tim Duncan had a season-high 18 points and led eight San Antonio players who scored in double figures as the Spurs took charge early and ran away with the game to remain unbeaten at home.

San Antonio shot 68 percent from the floor in the first quarter and never looked back, winning for the sixth straight time. The Spurs' 123 points tied their most in a game this season, equaling Monday's total in a win over Milwaukee by the same score.

Four players racked up season highs in points for the Spurs and San Antonio's 52 field goals made was also a season best.

The mind-boggling fact about all the superlatives the Spurs achieved Wednesday is that their starting guards (on this night Patty Mills at the point and Danny Green at shooting guard) combined for just six points and one of their key reserves, forward Boris Diaw had just one bucket.

"We have a great record but there are still not in a place where we are feeling ‘so good' about ourselves," Spurs reserve guard Manu Ginobili said. "Our offense has picked up the past few games but we still have work to do. There are few key details we can work on.

"We are trying to be the best team we can be in April, when it's the most important," Ginobili continued. "It's hard to play guys in meaningful times if they haven't played earlier in the season, so we are lucky to have the luxury and depth we have now."

Duncan, who in his last game at home was held without a point for the first time in his 18-year NBA career, scored San Antonio's first basket and led the Spurs with eight points in the first quarter.

The victory was the 21st straight at home this season for San Antonio, allowing the Spurs to expand their best home start ever and extend their win streak at AT&T Center to 30 games dating to the final nine home games of 2014-15.

San Antonio (31-6) is just the second Western Conference team in history to open a season 21-0 at home, joining Portland, which won its first 26 home games in 1977-78.

The Spurs played without two of their starters as guard Tony Parker missed the game with a sore right hip and forward LaMarcus Aldridge was held out for rest.

Forward Kawhi Leonard added 15 points for San Antonio and center David West and reserve guard Manu Ginobili scored 14 apiece. Forward Jonathan Simmons, reserve center Boban Marjanovic and guard/forward Kyle Anderson had 13 points each and reserve guard Ray McCallum netted 10 points.

Utah (15-18) was led by reserve guard Trey Burke's 21 points and guard/forward Gordon Hayward jumped in 18 points, 16 in the first half. Center Jeff Withey added 10 points and seven rebounds for the Jazz, who lost their second straight game.

"(San Antonio) is really good where we are really thin right now," Jazz coach Quin Snyder said. "I would have liked to see us be better defensively and make things a little harder on them, but there are a lot of things that you may want that aren't realistic against that group with who we had to play with tonight."

San Antonio made 13 of 19 shots from the field in the first quarter, building as much as a 13-point cushion before settling for a 32-22 lead. Hayward and Burke had six points apiece to pace the Jazz.

The Jazz were without three of their top six players -- guard Alex Burks (fractured left fibula), forward/center Derrick Favors (back spasms) and center Rudy Gobert (left knee sprain) -- and they were missed.

"Tonight's game wasn't a fair fight -- (the Jazz) played really hard," Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said. "I actually think they executed their offense better than we executed ours. It's a real tribute to their coaching staff and to the Jazz players that they come out every night and play their butts off."

The Spurs kept shooting -- and making -- their shots in the second quarter while placing four players in double figures (Leonard, Duncan, West and McCallum had 10 each) and building a 68-51 lead.

Hayward's 16 points kept the Jazz within distant reach, but it took him 14 shots to get those points.

The 68 points were the most for San Antonio in a half this season.

"We were a little too lax on defense in the first half," Burke said. "San Antonio is a great team but we needed to be more aggressive on the defensive end and try to take some things away from them. But it's a lesson learned -- we will play them again back at our place."

Using mostly reserves to start the second half, San Antonio pushed its advantage to 23 points at 86-63 midway through the third quarter. Duncan scored six straight points before leaving the game with 3:10 left in the quarter and San Antonio led 95-74 with a quarter to play.
