Chris Paul had 25 points, seven rebounds and five assists as the New Orleans Hornets held on for a 99-90 win over the San Antonio Spurs on Saturday.

David West added 18 points for the Hornets, who watched most of a sizable lead evaporate in the fourth quarter.

New Orleans (3-0) held the Spurs without a field goal for nearly four minutes early in the third quarter and broke it open with an 11-0 run. They outscored San Antonio 33-18 during the quarter and built an 18-point lead early in the fourth.

Manu Ginobili had 23 points and six assists for the Spurs, who got 18 points from Richard Jefferson and 13 from Tony Parker. Tim Duncan was held to seven points and seven rebounds.

The Spurs (1-1) cut the lead to 93-90 with 1:58 left, but Jefferson misfired on a pair of 3-pointers down the stretch and the Hornets scored on consecutive possessions to put it away.

Rookie Marcus Thornton had 17 points and six rebounds in 28 minutes off the bench for the Hornets. Willie Green added 12 points off the bench.
