Salvador Perez celebrated the 10th anniversary of his MLB debut with a pair of home runs as the Kansas City Royals defeated the New York Yankees 8-4 on Tuesday night.

It was Perez's fourth multi-homer game this season and the 10th of his career.

Josh Staumont (2-2) earned the win. He struck out three of the four batters he faced. Nestor Cortes (0-1) took the loss after giving up five runs (four earned) on seven hits in 5 2/3 innings.

Perez clubbed his 28th home run of the season, a career best, in the first inning. His 418-foot blast to left-center gave the Royals their first lead of the series.

Andrew Velazquez helped the Yankees draw within a run in the third. He hit a one-out double over the outstretched arm of center fielder Michael A. Taylor. He advanced to third on a deep fly ball by D.J. LeMahieu and scored on a wild pitch.

Kyle Higashioka's two-run home run in the fourth put the Yankees up 3-2. He hit an 0-1 pitch 408 feet to left-center for his seventh round-tripper.

The Royals tied the game in the fifth. Whit Merrifield doubled with two outs, stole third and raced home on an errant throw by Higashioka, the catcher.

The Yankees regained the lead on a two-out single by LeMahieu in the sixth. Domingo Tapia walked Jonathan Davis, who advanced to second on a wild pitch -- the third wild pitch of the game by Royals pitchers -- before LeMahieu stroked one to right.

Perez quickly tied it again with his second homer of the night, leading off the sixth. Hunter Dozier then drove home Emmanuel Rivera from first with a double, giving the Royals a 5-4 lead. Dozier was thrown out trying to stretch it to a triple.

The Royals added to the lead in the seventh. Taylor led off with a double then scored on a throwing error on a sacrifice bunt by Hanser Alberto. Nicky Lopez then put down a safety squeeze bunt, scoring Alberto.

The Royals added an unearned run on a sacrifice fly by Alberto in the eighth.
