LOS ANGELES -- The anticipation of a lights-out matchup between Clayton Kershaw and Zack Greinke didn't meet the hype. While Kershaw dominated the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Los Angeles Dodgers knocked Greinke around.

Andrew Toles homered and the Dodgers defeated the Diamondbacks 7-1 on Friday night at Dodger Stadium.

Kershaw (2-1) allowed a run and four hits with eight strikeouts and one walk in 8 1/3 innings to beat his former teammate and the Diamondbacks.

"I said it before, but it's not a lot of fun to face guys that you know and consider a friend," said Kershaw, who is 9-0 with a 0.47 ERA in his last 10 games at home. "We did a good job against him tonight though we really battled and made him throw a lot of pitches. Didn't really give him any outs tonight. Hats off to our guys tonight. They really battled well against him."

Kershaw was two outs from a complete-game shutout before Chris Owings lined an RBI double in the ninth inning. Owings was 2-for-4 against Kershaw.

"Well, he's done it a few times to teams in this league over the course of his career, so you've got to tip your cap to him," Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said of Kershaw's dominance. "He was locating his pitches and I know he had good sharp late movement. The hitters were coming back and trying to make adjustments, but he was counterpunching."

Toles, who is hitting .333 in his last six games with five RBIs, hit his third home run of the season, a two-run shot in the eighth that capped the scoring for the Dodgers (6-5).

"I thought it had a chance, but the way (A.J. Pollock) was going back on the ball, I didn't know it if it was going out," said Toles, whose blast traveled an estimated 401 feet over the center field wall. "It went out and so it worked out."

Justin Turner had two RBIs and Adrian Gonzalez, Logan Forsythe and Yasiel Puig each drove in a run. Turner collected his team-high fifth multi-hit game this season.

Greinke (1-1) experienced another rough outing in the City of Angels. He was tagged with five runs and 10 hits with four strikeouts and three walks in five innings.

Greinke, who served up five home runs to the Dodgers in a 10-2 loss in September, is 1-3 against Los Angeles since signing with Arizona last year.

"Mainly just good at-bats by them," said Greinke, who is 3-3 with a 4.34 ERA in his eight career starts against the Dodgers. "They seem to do that a lot against me. Last year, same thing. Even the good games I threw it was a tougher game. Today, same thing. It wasn't like the best I've ever pitched, but it was just their at-bats were super quality and hit the ball hard a lot."

Kershaw said he witnessed the same old Greinke in his at-bats against him.

"Obviously, last year wasn't the year that he had here because he was so dominant here," Kershaw said. "In my first time facing him, I thought his fastball still had life and his change-up still got me to swing every time. Look good to me."

Gonzalez's RBI single scored Corey Seager, who reached on a base hit with one out in the third for a 1-0 lead. Forsythe followed with another run-scoring single for a 2-0 edge.

In the fourth, after a two-out single by Toles and a walk to Seager, Turner drilled a two-run double to right for a 4-0 Los Angeles advantage.

Puig's sacrifice fly in the fifth drove in Forsythe for a 5-0 lead.
