Jed Lowrie belted a three-run homer in the eighth inning to fuel the surging Oakland Athletics to a 6-3 victory over the host Cleveland Indians on Wednesday.

Elvis Andrus homered to lead off the eighth inning and Matt Chapman had an RBI single among his two hits for the Athletics, who have won six in a row. Oakland will vie for a sweep of the three-game series on Thursday afternoon.

Oscar Mercado's RBI double with two outs in the seventh inning gave the Indians a 3-2 lead before the Athletics provided a swift response in the eighth.

Andrus deposited a 2-1 slider from Nick Sandlin (1-1) over the wall in left field for his third homer of the season.

Sandlin hit Mark Canha with a pitch and allowed a single to Starling Marte before exiting with an undisclosed injury. Trevor Stephan came in and struck out Matt Olson before Lowrie played the role of hero for the second straight night.

Lowrie, who had an RBI double in Oakland's 4-3 win in 10 innings on Tuesday, sent a 2-1 slider over the wall in right field for his 13th homer of the season.

The uprising made a winner out of Jake Diekman (3-2), who allowed one run on one hit in one inning. Sergio Romo bridged the gap to Lou Trivino, who retired the side in the ninth for his 19th save.

Cleveland starter Cal Quantrill was charged with two runs after he left in the seventh inning. Mitch Moreland had a run-scoring groundout to trim the Indians' lead to 2-1 before Chapman forged a tie with an RBI single.

Cleveland opened the scoring in the first after Oakland was unable to complete an inning-ending double play. Lowrie's throw to first base ended up in the dugout, allowing Bradley Zimmer to score.

Harold Ramirez followed with an RBI single to center field to give the Indians a 2-0 lead.

Ramirez, however, was thrown out on a steal attempt by former Cleveland catcher Yan Gomes to end the inning. Ramirez pulled up short of the base and did not slide on the play before exiting the game with tightness in his right knee.
