Willson Contreras and Kris Bryant each slugged two homers to help the Chicago Cubs defeat the visiting Atlanta Braves 13-4 on Saturday afternoon.
Javier Baez and David Bote also hit homers as Chicago smacked six overall while notching its highest scoring game of the season. Bote and Bryant each had four RBIs.
Contreras hit a solo home run in the first inning to mark the first time in his career he has gone deep in three straight games. He followed that up with another solo shot in the third inning to give Chicago a 3-0 lead and account for his ninth career multi-home run game.
Baez joined in on the fun three batters later as he hit a three-run homer to give the Cubs a 6-0 lead.
Bryant followed in the bottom of the fifth inning by hitting a two-run blast to extend the lead to 8-0. Later in the inning, Bote slammed a three-run home run to make it 11-0.
Bryant's two-run blast the next inning gave the Cubs a 13-1 lead.
Cubs right-hander Trevor Williams (2-1) held Atlanta in check by retiring nine straight batters entering the fifth inning. Williams struck out four and allowed four hits and one run through five innings.
Braves right-hander Huascar Ynoa (0-1) served up three of the homers while allowing six runs and seven hits in four innings.
While the Braves scored three runs in the seventh, Atlanta missed the bats of Ozzie Albies (knee) and Ender Inciarte (hamstring), who both suffered injuries in Friday's 5-2 win over the Cubs.
Braves infielder Sean Kazmar Jr. played in his first major league game since 2008. The 36-year old spent the past 12 years in Triple-A before being called up Saturday. He grounded into a double play as a pinch hitter in the fifth inning.
