Left-hander Cole Irvin outdueled highly touted Casey Mize with six shutout innings Saturday afternoon as the Oakland Athletics recorded their second straight shutout and third straight win over the visiting Detroit Tigers with a 7-0 triumph.

Matt Olson, Aramis Garcia and Mark Canha all homered off the right-handed Mize (1-1) in the first two innings, getting Oakland on the way to its seventh straight win.

Benefitting from the early support, Irvin (1-2) coasted through his 18-out outing, scattering four singles. In recording his first win as a member of the A's, the 27-year-old struck out six and did not walk a batter.

Olson's homer, his second in the series and third of the season, got the A's on the board in the last of the first off the 23-year-old Mize, who was coming off seven shutout innings at Houston for the first win of his career.

Garcia made it 3-0 in the second when he followed a Vimael Machin two-out single with his first homer of the year.

When Canha, the next batter, also homered, the A's had a 4-0 lead. Canha's homer was his third of the season.

Mize was pulled after five innings, having been charged with five runs on seven hits. He struck out four and did not issue a walk.

The A's tacked on in the fifth on an RBI infield out by Chapman, and twice more in the seventh on a bases-loaded walk drawn by Mitch Moreland and an Alex Lange wild pitch.

Oakland relievers J.B. Wendelken, Deolis Guerra and Jordan Weems completed the shutout, allowing just one hit while striking out four in three innings.

Canha scored three times, while Olson scored twice and collected two hits for the A's, who have outscored the Tigers 18-4 in the series.

Robbie Grossman accounted for two of Detroit's four hits, both singles. For the second straight day, the Tigers went without an extra-base hit.

The Tigers have lost three in a row immediately following a three-game road sweep of the Houston Astros.
