Tyler Clippard pitched a perfect eighth inning and Rafael Soriano worked a 1-2-3 ninth to earn his 14th save in 17 chances as Washington retired the last 10 Philadelphia hitters in order. Domonic Brown had two hits and Kyle Kendrick (4-3) allowed five runs, eight hits and walked four in five innings for the Phillies.

Philadelphia's Ryan Howard doubled to lead off the second inning and advanced to third on Delmon Young's groundout before Brown delivered an RBI single to right. The Nationals tied it in the third when Kendrick walked the bases loaded with one out and Ian Desmond delivered a sacrifice fly.

Brown led off the fifth inning with a single and scored on an Erik Kratz sacrifice fly to put the Phillies back on top. After Suzuki's single, Tyler Moore reached on an infield hit before Lombardozzi drove Kendrick's 2-0 pitch into the right-center gap.
