Mets 1, White Sox 0 (10): Mike Baxter’s pinch-hit single brought home the winning run in the 10th inning and New York pitchers retired 30 of 31 batters to beat visiting Chicago.

Mets starter Matt Harvey retired the first 20 batters and pitched nine innings in the majors for the first time, allowing one hit, and Bobby Parnell (3-0) worked a perfect 10th. Alex Rios’ infield single deep in the hole at shortstop with two outs in the seventh was the only hit for Chicago and Harvey struck out a career-high 12.

Ike Davis walked to lead off the 10th and moved to second on a Juan Lagares sacrifice bunt. Baxter lined his winning hit down the right field line off losing pitcher Nate Jones (0-3) to score Davis easily for his second RBI of the season.

White Sox starter Hector Santiago matched Harvey with seven shutout innings, allowing four hits, two walks and striking out a season-high eight in a career-high 111 pitches.

Harvey struck out at least one batter in seven of nine innings, whiffing Alejandro De Aza three times. The Mets stranded six through the first five innings against Santiago, who is a Newark, N.J., native.
