Dodgers 8, Rockies 0:
Clayton Kershaw dominated through eight innings and Shane Victorino hit a three-run homer as host Los Angeles stayed alive in the National League wild card race.

Andre Ethier added an RBI double and scored three times for the Dodgers, who remained three games behind the St. Louis Cardinals for the second wild card spot with five left to play. The Cardinals beat the Washington Nationals earlier in the night.

Kershaw (13-9) showed no ill effects from the hip injury that has bothered him this month, striking out 10 with two walks while scattering five hits. The reigning Cy Young winner snapped a four-start winless streak and allowed two runs or less in his seventh straight start.

Los Angeles put the game away in the second inning against Jeff Francis (5-7). Adrian Gonzalez led off with a single and Hanley Ramirez walked in front of Ethier’s RBI double. Victorino followed and blasted a high 1-0 fastball into the glove of a fan just beyond the wall in left-center for a 4-0 lead.

The Dodgers put it away with three more runs in the eighth. A.J. Ellis doubled in Ethier and Bobby Abreu delivered a pinch-hit two-run homer.

GAME NOTEBOOK:
Rockies RF Matt McBride made a great catch on a long fly ball by Ramirez in the fifth inning, jumping into the wall in right-center to rob extra bases. … Kershaw made a spectacular defensive play in the eighth, catching a grounder between his legs and spinning immediately to start a double play. … Colorado OF/1B Michael Cuddyer (oblique) has been ruled out for the rest of the season.
