Mets 2, Nationals 0: Ike Davis belted a two-run homer in the seventh inning and Jonathon Niese tossed 7 1/3 sizzling frames as visiting New York mustered just three hits but prevented Washington from moving 30 games over .500.

After striking out the side in the sixth inning, Edwin Jackson (7-8) issued a lead-off walk in the seventh to David Wright. Davis then promptly deposited Jackson's first-pitch fastball over the wall in left-center for an opposite-field home run. The ball landed in the Mets' bullpen as Davis collected his 22nd homer - with a National League-best 17 coming on the road.

Niese (10-6), who worked at least six innings for the 14th straight start, scattered five hits and struck out seven.

Jon Rauch retired both batters he faced in the eighth inning before Frank Francisco worked a 1-2-3 ninth for his 20th save. The victory was New York's fourth in 14 meetings versus Washington.

Jackson took the hard-luck loss after striking out a season-best 11 in seven innings for the Nationals, who fell for just the seventh time in 28 games.
