Marlins 5, Phillies 1: Carlos Zambrano homered and pitched into the eighth inning as Miami took the weekend series rubber match on the road to move into a first-place tie with Washington and New York in the NL East.

Zambrano (4-3) gave himself the lead for good with a solo blast to left-center field in the third inning against Joe Blanton (4-6). After Hanley Ramirez made it 2-0 with a solo shot in the fourth, the Marlins put the game away with three runs in the top of the seventh. Jose Reyes, who extended his hitting streak to 14 games, doubled in a pair of runs and Zambrano then scored on a wild pitch.

The five-run lead was more than enough for the right-hander, who allowed just four hits and two walks in 7 2/3 innings of work while striking out seven. Philadelphia, which broke up the shutout bid on Juan Pierre’s eighth-inning RBI single, put a pair of runners on in the ninth but failed to complete the comeback bid as Heath Bell recorded the final two outs for his 12th save.

Blanton surrendered five runs on nine hits in six innings. He struck out six and walked one.

GAME NOTEBOOK:
Ramirez has 11 home runs in 54 games this season after hitting just 10 last year in 92 games ... Miami RF Giancarlo Stanton was named the National League Player of the Month for May.
