Yankees 2, Athletics 0: Hiroki Kuroda pitched eight strong innings to secure his first road victory and lead visiting New York to its fifth straight win.

Andruw Jones hit a solo homer and Mark Teixeira doubled twice and drove in a run for the Yankees, who have allowed an average of two runs in the last five games. Derek Jeter singled in the first to pass George Brett for 14th place on the all-time hits list.

Kuroda (4-6) turned in the best of New York’s recent run of solid starts, allowing four hits and walking one while striking out three. The Japanese right-hander has allowed three earned runs or less in seven of his last nine turns.

Tommy Milone (6-4) was the tough-luck loser for Oakland, surrendering two runs on eight hits while walking two and striking out three in 6 2/3 innings.

Rafael Soriano worked the ninth for his fifth save to wrap up New York's ninth consecutive victory in Oakland.

Jones led off the second and blasted the first pitch from Milone deep into the seats in left-center field for his fifth homer.

Teixeira padded the lead in the seventh, driving a double to the wall in right-center to plate Curtis Granderson.
