Yankees 4, Reds 0: Andy Pettitte pitched eight shutout innings for his first victory in nearly two years as host New York snapped a three-game losing streak.

Pettitte (1-1), making his second start since coming out of retirement, struck out nine and allowed only four hits for his first victory since July 8, 2010.

The Yankees finally rewarded Pettitte's effort when Raul Ibanez hit a two-run homer and Robinson Cano clubbed a solo blast in the eighth inning to stretch a 1-0 lead to 4-0.

Pettitte outdueled Reds right-hander Bronson Arroyo for his 241st career victory. The 39-year-old left-hander, who had retired after the 2010 season, threw 78 of his 115 pitches for strikes.

Arroyo (2-2) had allowed one run through 7 2/3 innings before surrendering the two-out homers to Cano and Ibanez. He fell to 0-1 in seven career starts against the Yankees.

New York had a chance to break it open in the sixth inning, loading the bases with no outs on singles by Derek Jeter and Curtis Granderson and a walk to Cano. Arroyo wriggled out of the jam unscathed by inducing a pair of force outs at home plate and a pop out.

Alex Rodriguez drove in the Yankees' first run in the fourth inning on a weak ground ball to shortstop.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Ibanez hit his eighth homer of the season and fifth in nine games. ... Yankees 1B Mark Teixeira, who has been bothered by a lingering cough, got the night off. He had a six-game hitting streak snapped in Thursday's loss at Toronto and is batting .228. ... Reds reliever Aroldis Chapman is being sued for $18 million by the family of a man imprisoned in Cuba. The suit, filed in Miami, alleges that Chapman and his father are the "main culprits" in the arrest, conviction and torture of Curbelo Danilo Garcia. Chapman has an 0.00 ERA in 16 appearances. He allowed an unearned run Thursday, his first of the year. ... The Yankees continued to struggle with men in scoring position. They were 0-for-7 Friday and are 3-for-48 in the past six games. ... Reds 1B Joey Votto went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts.
