Ryan Doumit’s ninth-inning home run broke a 1-1 tie and propelled the Pittsburgh Pirates to a 2-1 win over the Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday.

Doumit took a 2-1 fastball from Nick Masset (3-3) over the right-center field fence as the Pirates (20-26) won for just the second time in their last six games.

The scoreboard was silent for the first nine innings as starters Paul Maholm and Mike Leake went pitch-for-pitch in shutting down both offenses.

Cincinnati’s Leake was the first to falter, allowing a run in the top of the eighth inning on a double by Neil Walker that scored Akinori Iwamura. Leake finished the night giving up just the one run on 10 hits and one walk in 7 1/3 innings.

Brandon Phillips tied the game with a solo shot in the bottom half of the frame off Pittsburgh reliever Joel Hanrahan (1-0). Phillips homer spoiled a brilliant start by Paul Maholm, who gave up six hits and two walks while striking out two over seven shutout innings.

Octavio Dotel worked the ninth to pick up his 10th save of the year.

The loss for Cincinnati (26-20) snapped a five-game home win streak.
