Jason Heyward had two doubles and drove in a pair of runs to help the Atlanta Braves to a 6-2 victory over the San Diego Padres on Thursday.

Martin Prado homered and Yunel Escobar added an RBI and scored twice for Atlanta.

Tim Hudson (1-0) earned his first win despite a shaky performance. The right-hander allowed two runs on six hits, but walked five batters in 5 1/3 innings.

After the Padres climbed back within 3-2 in the sixth, Escobar singled in a run and Heyward -- who leads the team in RBIs with 12 -- brought him home with a two-bagger for the 5-2 advantage.

Padres starter Mat Latos (0-1) served up three runs on six hits in 4 2/3 innings in the losing effort.

Will Venable homered and Everth Cabrera drove in a run for the Padres.
