Paul Janish hit a go-ahead homer and Bronson Arroyo hurled 7 1/3 solid innings as the Cincinnati Reds defeated the host Arizona Diamondbacks 6-2 on Tuesday night.

Janish hit a one-out homer to left field in the seventh to break a 2-2 tie as the Reds won their fourth consecutive contest and improved their lead in the National League Central to 2 ½ games over St. Louis.

Arroyo (13-7) allowed two runs and six hits while winning for the third time in four starts. Arroyo struck out five and walked two.

Arthur Rhodes struck out both hitters he faced in the eighth to preserve a one-run lead before Cincinnati put the game away with a three-run ninth.

Scott Rolen went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and had a two-run single for Cincinnati’s only hit in the ninth.

Kelly Johnson hit his 19th homer of the season, a two-run shot in the first inning, for Arizona’s only runs.

Cincinnati tied the score in the sixth with Rolen driving in one run and the other coming when Jay Bruce grounded into a double play.

Daniel Hudson (3-1) struck out a career-best 10 in seven innings while losing for the first time in four starts as with Arizona.
