For once it was the other dugout dealing with a bullpen implosion as the Arizona Diamondbacks twice overcame deficits to beat the Philadelphia Phillies 8-6 Sunday at Chase Field.

The Diamondbacks scored two runs in the eighth inning off reliever David Herndon to win the series against the two-time defending National League champions.

Stephen Drew opened the frame with a single to right off of Herndon (0-1), but was thrown out at the plate on Cole Gillespie’s double. Mark Reynolds, who hit a three-run home run in the fifth inning, doubled home Gillespie to break the 6-all tie.

Center fielder Chris Young singled home Reynolds, who finished 3-for-5 with four RBIs, for an insurance run.

Leo Rosales (2-0) picked up the win with a scoreless eighth and Chad Qualls earned his fourth save.

The Diamondbacks tied it at 6-all in the seventh on catcher John Hester’s double that scored Young.

The Phillies had surged ahead with a three-run sixth inning off starter Rodrigo Lopez with the big blow being a two-run single by Carlos Ruiz.

The Diamondbacks took a 5-3 lead in the fifth when Kelly Johnson hit his fourth home run, a two-run shot, of the series and Reynolds blasted his seventh.
